Going strong since its debut in 1985, the Shoals Catfish Festival has become synonymous with Fourth of July celebrations in the region. Flea markets, sports competitions, music and beauty contests, food stalls selling the famous Shoals Lions Club fish sandwich, and firework displays allow family and friends to have a fun and memorable time. The festival is especially known for the Big Catfish Fishing Contest, that involves the Catfish Festival Queen kissing the biggest catfish. Live musical performances by local bands keep visitors enchanted throughout the day.
