The St. Louis Symphony is the United States second-oldest professional symphony orchestra, established in 1880 by Joseph Otten. The orchestra's prestige soared under the tutelage of Leonard Slatkin who took the ensemble to Carnegie Hall and a tour across Europe during his tenure from 1979 to 1996. With a stellar line-up of concerts each season, the orchestra invites a slew of renown guests from across the world to its home at Powell Hall. Besides classical music, the St. Louis Symphony screens classic Hollywood films and animated movies, paired with a live performance of its soundtrack.
