Grammy Award-winning artist Anita Baker is a soul and R&B singer/songwriter who got her start in Detroit as apart of Michael J. Powell's band Chapter 8. She released her debut solo album The Songstress, in 1983 and dropped her first mainstream hit "Sweet Love" on her 1986 follow-up and all time best-selling album, Rapture. The album earned Baker her first Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance from a female. Despite the success of her 1994 album Rhythm of Love, she took time off from her music career to spend time with her family and didnt release another album until 2004, when she dropped her first album in a decade, My Everything.
