The African-American community in Tucson commemorates the day the slaves in Texas heard about emancipation. Juneteenth has become a tradition all across the United States ever since the former slaves in Galveston, Texas, first celebrated their freedom on that happy day in 1865. Come and enjoy a day of gospel music, soul food and games at the Dunbar Pavilion. There is no admission fee and refreshments are available at a small charge.
