DJ and producer Matthew Dear, who also releases music under the aliases Audion, Jabberjaw and False, is the co-founder of electronic music label Ghostly International. Heavily influenced by the Detroit techno scene while growing up in Michigan, Dear began DJing in the mid 1990s and met Sam Valenti IV, other co-founder of Ghostly International, while DJing a party at the University of Michigan. The two heavily influenced each other, but decided to maintain separate solo careers, Dear releasing his first single in 1999 to much acclaim from the underground scene. Though he has explored many sounds, Dear's music is best known as a fusion of avant-pop and minimalist techno and has a wide fan base throughout the US and UK.
