December 21st is the longest and darkest night of the year. Vancouverites tote their lanterns on this night to False Creek and attend this annual Winter Solstice Lantern Procession. The celebration of the return of the sun and the winter solstice features a procession on False Creek, dotted and glowing with lights and lanterns at night. For those who don't have lanterns, there is a lantern-making workshop held in the False Creek Community Center prior to the event. Check website for timings.
