Jardins du Château

Like the palace the palace gardens were also intended to glorify the Sun King. Greek mythology plays a significant part here. King Louis XIV had himself represented as Apollo, the Greek god of the sun and of light, as can be clearly seen in the sculptures and fountains in the park. The structuring of the park into terraces and steps also meant that visitors had to ascend towards the king.
