Built somewhere in the 15th century, De Waag was the center of trade and marketing in the city. The steep roof and peculiar architecture of the old structure makes it stand out amongst the more modern buildings that now surround it. Formerly the heart of the city's market, this is where the goods were first weighed and balanced, before being sold to various dealers and traders around the country. Since being decommissioned in the 19th century the building has been used for various other purpose. Its lower level is now a cafe, while the upper rooms have been converted into a bed and breakfast.
