Located near the confluence of Danube, Ilz and Inn rivers, the town of Passau is often referred to as the "City of Three Rivers". Historically, Passau's origins started as a Roman colony and flourished with sword and weaponry industry around Renaissance. Numerous Gothic and Baroque buildings are very well-preserved and echo of the town's past. The Italian Baroque style St.Stephen's Cathedral, Medieval fortress of Veste Oberhaus and the white hued Lamberg Palais are some of the most striking landmarks of the town. The University of Passau has garnered a lot of attention and is considered a significant educational center. A temporary home for Adolf Hitler in the 19th Century, Passau is popular with history buffs.
