TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Coburg was one of those fortunate towns which escaped extensive bombing during World War 2. As a result, most of the medieval structures stand intact, and they are truly a sight to behold. The obvious choice is the Veste Coburg, a gigantic bastion towering over the town, considered to be the largest in Germany. Ehrenburg, a Franciscan monastery turned palace, is no less regal, its dark, yet statuesque façade inspiring awe. The Gothic St. Moritz is a delight for anyone who loves medieval churches, and the Casimirianum's multi-gabled façade is a feast for the eyes. Viewing these attractions is barely scratching the surface, such is the historical heritage of this former princely town.
