Built in 1543-47, the beautiful Ehrenburg Palace is a major tourist attraction of Coburg. It was built under the supervision of Duke of Saxe-Coburg, Johann Ernst. Replacing a former Franciscan monastery, the castle was famous for being built without exercising forced labor. Destroyed and rebuilt a number of times, the current facade of the castle reflects French-Empire style. Host to a number of royal occasions, the castle currently houses a museum.
