Named after a Native American, Manteo has its history rooted to The Lost Colony of Roanoke. It thrived as a small fishing and farming community and today, its intriguing past can be explored at Roanoke Maritime Museum. The town's landscape is dotted with beautiful lighthouses such as The Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, and Bodie Island Lighthouse. Every year, the historic Roanoke Island Festival Park hosts a number of exciting festivals that are worth witnessing.
