Named for Greenwich, England, East Greenwich is a picturesque little town and the seat of Rhode Island's Kent County. One of the wealthiest and oldest municipalities in the state, East Greenwich was founded in 1677. Its historic district is reminiscent of its bygone era and still preserves fine specimens of architectural gems such as the Kent County Courthouse and the Armory of the Kentish Guards, which have found their place on the National Register of Historic Places. While the vintage Greenwich Odeum is a great place to enjoy local shows, the Varnum House Museum lets you explore local history.
