Several hundred years old, Hotel Maximilian is situated near the city walls in the Old Town. The spacious rooms are decorated in warm pastel shades and boast of period features like lovely bay windows. The quietest rooms are those facing the courtyard and the old town. The hotel is named after Maximilian I, the Habsburg Emperor who oversaw Innsbruck's transformation into an economic and political powerhouse. By the end of his reign, Maximilian was so heavily in debt that he was thrown out of the city and had to spend a night in front of the city walls, not far from where the hotel stands today.
