TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, ENTERTAINMENT VENUES
The Royal Palace of Milan boasts a rich history as a center of power. Originally a noble residence for families like the Torriani and Visconti, it was built in a medieval style with courtyards. Francesco Sforza transformed the building in the 15th century, and Spanish rulers later made further modifications. Architect Giuseppe Piermarini significantly influenced the palace's current appearance with his 18th-century renovations in the Neoclassical style. This architectural style emphasizes grandeur, evident in the palace's facade and interiors. The Palace complex includes the Arengario, a 20th-century building featuring twin pavilions designed in a contrasting modern style. One interesting feature is the Sala delle Cariatidi, a grand hall located where an ancient theater once stood. Currently undergoing restoration, this hall reflects the palace's layered history.
