A popular attraction for visitors and locals alike, the Schlachte dates back to 1250 and, along with the market square and cathedral, makes up the heart of the old city. This medieval harbour was recently given a face-lift, and is now a mooring point for pleasure boats and features several historic ships, like the reconstruction of a Hansa cog (the original can be seen in the Bremerhaven Shipping Museum). Hungry and thirsty visitors should head to the bars, restaurants and beer gardens on the upper promenade.
