The Shoelace Theaterhaus began as a venue for children's and adolescent theater in 1974. They still show primarily youth theater, but the program has more diversity than in the past--you can find author readings or theater for adults as well. The Theaterhaus is located in a former movie theater, and manages to provide an intimate space for performances without being too small. The productions are generally modern, so the actors wear contemporary clothes even if the play itself is antiquated. There is a strong set of ideals driving the theater crew: democracy, tolerance, and bravery in life. Many of their productions have a moral didactic component, as is common in youth theater.
