One of the world's oldest cities, Malaga was originally established around 770 BCE by the Phoenicians; its urban landscape a rich tapestry that tells the tale of this Andalusian city with style. Ruins of the Moorish Gibralfaro and Alcazaba dominate the skyline, while the church spires of the old town rise above a sea of red roofs and Roman ruins bask in between. Birthplace of Pablo Picasso, Solomon Ibn Gabirol and Antonio Banderas, the city also attracts cultural connoisseurs with varying interests. Botanical gardens and parks add some relief to the landscape, while museums beckon with their rich cache of art, artifacts and relics. Down the streets of Old Malaga, traditional bars face off against their more contemporary counterparts, Flamenco performances are par course and there are tapas galore. The shops of the historic quarter are equally diverse, with the best of the best down the streets that branch off from the Gothic Cathedral of Malaga. Along the coast, the city is fringed by a sun-soaked stretch of sand with its own eclectic collection of bars, cafes and restaurants. A worthy city of culture - dynamic, diverse and divine - Malaga is the full package.
