Winchester

Situated in the north-western region of Virginia is the city of Winchester. The city was first inhabited by the Iroquoian tribe of Native Americans and was considered a sacred hunting ground. European discovery of the area led to it becoming a settlement and later a town. Several wars were fought in the region of which the Civil War is still remembered and re-enacted to date. This eventful past has led to a number of historical buildings and landmarks lining the city which include Hexagon House, Winchester National Cemetery, Old Court House Civil War Museum among others. Apart from historical exploration of the city, tourists can also partake in local events and festivals of which the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival is the most highlighted. The city has a lot to offer tourists with its history and cultural diversity.
