It is one of the 14 theaters in the nation that was built before the 20th Century and still functional as a live performance theater. Built in 1887 by Oscar Cobb, Lexington Opera House during its hey days hosted notable performances. From 1926 till 1955, it was used as a movie house and then fell into disrepair. Thankfully due to community efforts, it was saved from demolition and restored to its former glory in 1974 and opened again as a performance space. Today it hosts Broadway shows, musicals, ballets, comedies, children's theater, opera and more.
