A more recent edifice in a city with ancient dwellings is the Provincial Hof or Provincial Court, constructed in 1887, this neo-gothic structure is beautifully centered right in Bruges more popular market, the Grote Markt. The Hof itself is closed to the public, however, its location allows visitors to enjoy the other gabled houses and the other historical sights nearby while munching on some fries from one of the frittuur carts in the square.
