Groeninge Museum is the city's fine arts museum, well-known for its collection of 'Flemish Primitives', the name derives from the original school of Flemish painters such as Van Eyck, Memling, Gerard David and others. The building itself is an incarnation, dating from the mid-1930s and the collection is not limited to the Primitives, as there are also exhibits dedicated to the works of Baroque and Renaissance painters, in addition to smaller collections of contemporary artists, most notably the Herbert Collection.
