Rostock is a very old city whose first settlers were the Polabian Slavs in the 11th Century. Rostock has grown to be the largest city in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommernb. Its proximity to the Baltic has endowed the city with a rich maritime history, which is visible especially during the annual Hanse Sail Festival. Historical museums such as Das Kulturhistorische Museum, Heimatmuseum Warnemunde deserve a visit. Other than the attractions and water sports, the city itself is a sight to behold with grandiose, multi-hued, historic buildings dotting the landscape. Overall, Rostock has both commercial and tourist value making it a very important city in the country.
