TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Constructed in 1250, St. Katharinen church is located right next to the harbor and sustained heavy damage during World War II. From 1350-1425, it was built as a Gothic basilica and its Baroque steeple was added in the 17th century. The silhouette of this copper-plated feature is a landmark within the cityscape. The inside of Hauptkirche St. Katharinen is the home of many pieces of art ranging from the middle ages to the present. Be sure to catch a glimpse of the 14th century crucifix and the statue of the church's patron. You can also catch up on the art shows and periodic exhibitions which are open to the public.
