The three old towers at the picturesque Vieux port present an important chapter in the history of La Rochelle. Lantern, Saint-Nicolas, and Chain are the names of the three towers respectively. All the three towers were built between the 12th and the 15th Century and served various functions from watchtower to dungeons. Currently maintained and managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux, the three towers are open to the public and are a great way to learn about the history of the region. The stunning views of the ocean are an added bonus. A must-visit when in La Rochelle.
