The town of Eleanor was founded in 1934, and named after Eleanor Roosevelt who had visited with her husband Frank Roosevelt. Till date, a number of similar-looking houses called Eleanor Houses are still visible in some parts. This town was a Sundown Town which meant that African-Americans were not allowed inside after dark. Since then, things have changed and Eleanor is now a regular town that is trying to shed its infamous image.
