Tahlequah has an interesting origin. Once 3 Cherokee elders had decided to meet to discuss a capital for their nation but when dusk fell and only 2 of them had arrived and kept waiting for the 3rd in vain, they decided that 'Two Was Enough' which in Cherokee is Taligwu (Tahlequah is a corruption of the original term). The city still beckons to visitors with its original Native flavor kept intact by shop signage and street signs in English and Cherokee. A major attraction is the 1844-built Cherokee Supreme Court Building. Nature lovers will delight in the lush forests, nature trails, idyllic streams and a relaxed vibe that permeates through and through.
