Inhabiting Chatham County's easternmost tip, Tybee Island is a steady progression of spotless golden sand surfaces, breathtaking waterfronts, and immaculate meadows. Once the ancestral home of the Euchee people, the barrier island was transformed into a city by the Spanish after discovering the barrier island by the 16th Century, also giving it the name Los Bajos. One of Georgia's most tourist-friendly destinations, this tropical wonderland is home to a host of interesting attractions such as the Tybee Island Light, the Fort Pulaski National Monument, Jaycee Park, Battery Garland and Mid Beach. The Beach Bum Parade and the Tybee Pirate Fest are held here every year.
