The capital of Oregon, Salem is a vibrant city located in and the county seat of the Marion County. Blessed with an idyllic natural backdrop, the city lies in the heart of the Willamette Valley, along the Willamette River. A city that is rich in history, Salem as a settlement first saw Native American residents of the Kalapuyan tribe, and many centuries later, around 1812, it saw the arrival of European settlers. The city was established in 1842 and it received the capital status in 1851.
