Linköping Cathedral

Linköping Cathedral or Linköpings domkyrka, as the locals call it, is situated right at the heart of the city. Located on Persgatan, the 800 year old, majestic building has a history that goes back to 11th Century. Over the years and centuries, the church has been reconstructed many times, it was only in the 15th Century that a glorious Gothic facade was incorporated at the sight. Later again, in 1967, a 17th-century roof became a part of the church facade. Nevertheless, the interiors of the church remains more or less unchanged - magnificent high arches fill the place with natural light that reflects brilliantly on beautiful sculptures and artworks that were created by some of the greatest artists of the country. The Linköping Cathedral is often claimed to be one of the finest examples of Scandinavia churches; open between 9a and 6p, all week, it makes for a marvelous visit.
