Neue Nationalgalerie

The distinctive rectangular structure of the Neue Nationalgalerie was designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1968. The museum houses a wide collection covering some of the 20th Century's most significant movements. Included are works by Expressionists like the Brücke Group (see Brücke Museum), New Functionalists such as Otto Dix and George Grosz; Bauhaus art by the likes of Paul Klee and Oskar Schlemmer, as well as works from the post-war era including a number by Pablo Picasso. The museum also hosts many highly renowned temporary exhibitions. After a scheduled closure of nearly six years in 2015 for renovation purposes, the museum opened its doors once again in August 2021 with extraordinary exhibitions that aligned with the iconic building's architecture.
