One of the country's oldest reclaimed lands, Haarlemmermeer was founded in the 19th Century. The area of Hoofddorp is the hub of most activities in the city, and is also one of its most populous parts. Though there's little or no tourism interest in the city, it gained wide attention when it was chosen as a venue for the popular Floriade exhibition. In recent times, music festivals like Mysteryland attract visitors to the city.
