Untouched by the passage of time, the regal design of Ooidonk Castle does little to convey its eventful past. Completed in 1595, the castle, as it stands today, is the third to be built at the site after its first two incarnations were destroyed by the ravages of war. The castle's picturesque gardens, onion domes, and gabled crenels distinguish it from Belgium's other fine castles, marking this as a truly remarkable example of Hispanic-Flemish architecture. Surrounded by a moat, amid formal gardens and verdant woodlands, Ooidonk Castle is truly worthy of its repute.
