The Ellen Theatre

Built in 1919 for the matriarch of the city's founding family, the Ellen Theatre enjoyed a thriving status in Bozeman's historic downtown. At its most successful peak, the theater entertained the city's folks with several vaudeville shows, silent movie screenings, operas, and school plays. After it fell into a state of disrepair in the nineties, the Montana TheatreWorks, a non-profit theater company took it upon themselves to save this yesteryear treasure. After a considerable amount of time and money was spent to restore the theater to its former glory, replete with its crown moldings and vintage fixtures, the theater rose like a phoenix from the ashes. After its re-birth in 2008 when it opened to a roaring full house, it found itself sewn once again into Bozeman's cultural fabric, and today hosts a diverse range of programs, from concerts and musicals, to dance, stand-up comedy, and more.
