Established first in 1939, the Ondrej Nepela Arena opened its gates to the public in 1940. Over the course of time, it was renovated in 1958, 1990 - 1992, 2009- 2011 with modern and advanced facilities. The arena is named after the local popular ice skater Ondrej Nepela, who is responsible for putting the country on the world map for Winter Sports. A number of tournaments are hosted here like the 1958 European Figure Skating Championships, 1996 ISBHF Ball Hockey World Championship, 2016 European Figure Skating Championships and many more. It is the home stadium for the local team HC Slovan Bratislava. The venue has been used for musical concerts where artists like Sting, Beyonce, Jose Carreras and many more have performed here.
