Newark also known as "The Brick City" and "The Gateway City" was established as a town in 1693 and later as a city in 1836. The largest metropolitan of the Garden State, it is not only a financial, transportation and commercial hub but also a cultural hive. Segregated into five distinct wards which are strongly political such as the Central, North and West which are residential while the East and South Wards has more industrial units, seaport and airport lands. This city is also a potpourri of Spanish, Greek, Portuguese, Brazilian, Caribbean and African American food styles. Some of the interesting places to visit are the Newark Museum, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Newark Symphony Hall, Prince Street Synagogue, Aljira: A Center For Contemporary Art, First Baptist Peddie Memorial Church, Forest Hill Historic District, Ironbound District, Dreyfuss Planetarium and Prudential Center.
