The St Mary le Strand is a Church of England located in the eastern end of Westminster’s Strand. Under the domain of the Diocese of London, it serves as the Women’s Royal Naval Service’s official church. Temple being the nearest tube station, the church is one of the Island Churches. The church’s architecture was debated on, at the outset. The architect wanted it to be on the lines of Italian style but the commission dismissed the same. The interiors are decorated with white and gold and the ceiling is an inspiration of Luigi Fontana’s work in Santi Apostoli church and Pietro da Cortona's Santi Luca e Martina Church of Rome. The walls also exhibit inspiration from Michelangelo. A church housing eclectic elements, it is a beautiful place of worship. Check website for more information on this contemporary church.
