Hockenheim town has origins dating back to the Roman times, and like many German towns and villages was greatly affected by the Thirty Year War(1644) and the Franco-Dutch War(1674). The town, is most popularly known for the Hockenheim Ring since it was built in 1932, which racing enthusiasts will recognize in a flash. This is one of the two venues for the ultra popular German Formula One Grand Prix. Close to the Hardt forest, there are a number of outdoor leisure activities like hiking, biking and more to pursue while visiting the town.
