TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, PRACTICAL INFORMATION
One of the best surviving historic centers in the country, the Old Town area of Bamberg was an important center of power since the early Middle Ages. Travel back in time to the town, once called the Rome of Franconia, with its five beautiful churches located strategically to form a cross. Majestic specimens of predominantly Baroque medieval edifices can be found all over the Old Town, that can broadly be classified into three main districts; Bergstadt, Inselstadt and Gärtnerstadt. Declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the town is home to numerous historic monuments, including the spectacular Bamberg Cathedral.
