Cave of El Soplao

Located on the outskirts of Celis in the lush green Spanish countryside, the Cave of El Soplao form a famous natural landmark and a popular attraction. Considered to be among the most unique in Cantabria, the caves are full of bizarrely shaped stalagmites and stalactites such that cave chambers are given names like "Gallery of Ghosts", "Gallery of the Cauliflower", "Gallery of the Forest" and "Gallery of the False Floor" among others. Visitors are taken on a guided tour of the cave in a small mine train and thereafter on foot. The floor is slippery and wet, so good walking shoes are recommended along with thick clothing to protect you from the cold climate inside. Open throughout the year.
