Located on Old Mountain Road, the Castle in the Clouds is a magnificent mansion, dating back to the early 20th Century. The castle was built by Thomas Gustave Plant, a shoe manufacturer, for his better half. Designed by the much celebrated architect J. Williams Beal, the mansion was a architectural novelty at the time of its construction as it had many rare then technologically advanced fixtures like, interlocking tiles, circular showers and centralized vacuum system. Currently under the administration of Castle Preservation Society and ownership of Lakes Region Conservation Trust, it is open to public visitation. The castle houses a cafe, an art gallery and a gift shop. The castle remains open every year from May to October. It is also available for private events such as weddings.
