The former home of the Mecklenburg dukes, the Schwerin Castle dating back to 973 CE is nicknamed the Neuschwanstein of the North. One of the major romantic Historicism structures in Europe, one of the prime highlights of the castle is the Statue of Obotrite Prince Niklot. Moreover, today, the castle serves as the residence of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state parliament.
