Found to the southern end of Lake District, Kendal is an ancient settlement located close to the sea. Nestled by the banks of Kent river, it traces its origins back to the Roman period. Counted as one of the prime tourism destinations of Cumbria, it is famous for the Kendal mint cake, apart from being one of the leading manufactures of tobacco snuff and pipe tobacco. Most of the structures in Kendal are built of locally quarried gray limestone. This has given the town the moniker 'Auld Grey Town.' A walk down one of its lanes introduces one to a motley of architectural styles, while a visit to the historic Kendal Museum or the Kendal Castle offers an interesting glimpse into the town's eventful past.
