Located at an equal distance from San Francisco and Los Angeles, Atascadero is a charming city which offers easy access to key state landmarks and major cities. Historically, Atascadero was inhabited by the Salinan indigenous people. Spanish Franciscans laid the foundations of several missions dotting the state's coast, including Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa and Mission San Miguel Arcángel. American political activist Edward Gardner Lewis established the city in 1913. The city is home to both, historic landmarks like the Atascadero City Hall, as well as family attractions like the Charles Paddock Zoo.
