The Zurich Theater Spektakel was founded in 1980 as an international gathering of independent theaters. It quickly developed into a cultural event with international appeal. Today it is one of the most important European festivals for contemporary forms of the performing arts. A consistent, artistically high-quality programming, the unique atmosphere and an open-minded, interested audience in large numbers are the basis of the success story and make the Theater Spektakel a sought-after performance venue for artists from all over the world. The festival lasts 18 days and takes place on the Landiwiese. The park-like grounds directly on Lake Zurich include up to eight purpose-built venues of various sizes. In addition, the Werfthalle and the stages of the Rote Fabrik cultural center will be used. Open-air performances, freely accessible installations and artistic interventions on the grounds, as well as the festival's own restaurants and bars, make the Landiwiese a point of attraction for culture enthusiasts and night owls far beyond Zurich during the festival. In combination with the program offerings, they make the Zurich Theater Spektakel a lively, attractive cultural festival where the open-air season once again shows its best side.
