Kenny Werner is a jazz pianist and composer from Brooklyn, New York whose love and deep knowledge of music has produced one of the most austere and well-respected careers in contemporary jazz. Sighting iconic jazz composers and pianists such as Duke Ellington and George Gershwin as influences, Werner holds a deep respect for the foundational figures of jazz, while at the same time strives to offer something new and progressive to the genre. Although Werner's approach to music can be seen as somewhat academic, his extraordinary technique has been celebrated by enthusiasts of instrumental improvisation as almost supernaturally effortless, prompting the great musician to write the book Effortless Mastery--Liberating the Master Musician Within, which details his methodology and has since been adopted by many music schools as required reading.
