One of Italy's most prominent jazz musicians, Enrico Rava has been dabbling in several different forms of the genre since the 1960s. He's known for his soulful and virtuosic abilities on trumpet, which he picked up in his youth after being greatly inspired by the music of Miles Davis. In mid-1960s, Rava moved to New York City in an effort to expand his notoriety as an up-and-coming jazz musician. Once there, he began to play with many notable names in the local and national scene, including Cecil Taylor, Roswell Rudd and Marion Brown. He would perform in a wide-range of styles, which remains one of his trademarks to this day. From Dixieland and smooth jazz, to post-bop and avant-garde experimental works, Rava continues to establish himself as one of the most revered Italian jazz artists around.
