One of the first women to be successful in the rockabilly genre, Wanda Jackson has remained a legend since first beginning her career in the mid-1950s. Initially gaining attention by touring with Elvis Presley, who she briefly dated, Jackson soon went on to achieve her own fame. With her slightly gruff voice, fringed dresses and fiercely independent style, Jackson became the standard for female rockabilly stars. After the genre began to wane in popularity, the singer/songwriter effortlessly shifted into classic country and gospel, achieving multiple top 20 country hits. Jackson has also made a name for herself overseas, recording several popular singles in German and touring throughout Europe in the 1980s. As the public's interest in rockabilly periodically revives itself, Jackson has kept her title of "Queen of Rockabilly" alive, has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and began working with Jack White, who produced her 2011 album and released it on his record label, Third Man.
