German band Ela was founded by the lead vocalist Michaela "Ela" Eichhorn in 2009. It started out with a sound that leaned towards pop-rock, elements of which can be clearly distinguished in albums like Passion. However, it started exploring and experimenting with different genres and issued the record Nervous Breakdown, which had a vibe different from its previous works, in 2015. The official switch to hard rock and heavy metal was announced via its 2017 EP Out of this World. The record was well-received by critics and featured the single "Blackest One."
