Born and raised in Liverpool, Ian McCulloch is a singer/songwriter and musician who is best known as the front man of the post punk band Echo & the Bunnymen. He spent his early days as the primary songwriter and vocalist for Crucial Three, and though the project never made it past rehearsals, it served as practice for his next endeavor. Echo & the Bunnymen formed in 1978, shortly after the dissolution of Crucial Three, and quickly earned critical acclaim, particularly for 1984's Ocean Rain, which held the band's most renowned song, "The Killing Moon." When McCulloch left the band to embark on a solo career in 1990, the band continued on with a new singer while he released his debut solo album, Candleland. On top of his own recordings, he collaborated with Johnny Marr of The Smiths and eventually with Bunnymen guitarist, Will Sergeant to form Electrafixation in 1994 with a rejuvenated rock sound and harsher vocals. The new group began to incorporate Echo & the Bunnymen songs into its repertoire, until finally the band reformed in 1997 with its key members as its nucleus. McCullock continues to perform and release his solo recordings, including 2012's Pro Patria Mori, as well as new material with the Bunnymen.
